Ihor Verys becomes first Canadian to finish Barkley Marathons
The Ukrainian-Canadian from Chilliwack, B.C., makes history at the Barkley Marathons, finishing five loops in 58:44:59 in a pair of Topo Athletic MTN Racer 2's & MTN Racer 3's.
For the first time in 38 years, a Canadian has finished the Barkley Marathons. Ihor Verys of Chilliwack, B.C., finished his final loop on Friday afternoon at Frozen Head State Park in Wartburg, Tenn. He completed five loops of the 20+ mile course in 58:44:59 and is the first runner to finish.

This is an amazing accomplishment, as it is one of the toughest races in the world.
Ihor also competed in the Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra in 2023 (445.83 miles in 90:44:04) placing second behind Ohio's Harvey Lewis.
He also won the Canadian Death Race in August of 2023 (118km) in 12:36:11
Not only is Ihor a great racer but he is also modest and kind. Always focusing on the community around him. He is an inspiration to all of us.
